Karen, Charlene and Joanna have been training together since 2013 as participants in the SHE Contest. They all continued to support each others fitness by training together after the contest along with TLAC’s Co-Director of Fitness, Courtney Smith. I decided to join Tipton Lakes Athletic Club because I wanted to continue the healthy habits I had started from competing in the 2013 SHE contest. I had a set of workouts to do and knew I would not be able to do TRX at any other gyms (or at least the other one to which I had a membership). I signed an 18 month contract to help keep me motivated and committed! Both of my parents died at young ages (46 and 60). As a result I have been focused on staying healthy and strong to live a long life to be here with and for my family.
Two things I LOVE about TLAC are that 1) all of the trainers are very approachable 2) I learned how to use my body to exercise and use it as it is made to be as a machine instead of hopping ON a machine. Okay…. 3 things… It is very reasonably priced, even with the childcare. It can be overwhelming walking into the gym for the first time but found that most of the members are super friendly and it really is a fun atmosphere. Most of the staff are equally friendly and will engage in conversation. I feel like they truly care about my well being! The restrooms and locker rooms are very clean and the shower is great, too. Having a toddler and 4 other children, it is a treat to take a quiet shower after my workout! TLAC is the only gym I want to be at!
I spend most of my time between TRX, free weights, dumbells, etc. for strength training and conditioning. The three of us try to set up our mats so that we stake out our space to work out. It is usually over by the time clock near the extra TRX. On days I truly don’t have energy for a full work out, I will briskly walk on a treadmill and do light weights.

TLAC is the perfect gym if you want to develop relationships with the staff/trainers and create accountability to achieve your goals.
I became a member to continue in the positive results I saw as being part the the SHE contest. It was great partnering with others on this journey to better health and fitness. Even when I’m not working out with Courtney’s fitness trio, there are others in the gym to encourage you to press on; be it trainers, staff or members.
I spend the majority of my time in the free weights area of the gym. I also participate in some group classes (BOSU & Zumba).
Whatever your workout style; there is something at TLAC for you. Just get in (group class, private lessons, tennis, raquetball, yoga, etc) where you fit in and grow from there. They have friendly and helpful trainers. I do appreciate the fact that there are trainers available to help.
